This was a good saving because later in the day a cheeky restaurant underperformed so they could overcharge; witness there drink size they assumed Marie would like!
we left home at 7am determined too beat the crowds and the controlled process at the Trevi fountain (from 8am). We succeeded 👍
Then moved on to breakfast before the Parthenon opened at 9am. This is a simple yet very impressive structure.... With a designed hole in the roof.
Rounded the corner to enter the Roman Forum, which is interesting in a historical sense but also revealed that people didn't really care about maintaining old Roman history until very recent times.
Then on down the hill to the colosseum. We skipped Circus Maximus because it looks a bit minimus now.
The colosseum is another Roman property that was ignored and abused for 1,000 years but it is still a reminder of how impressive the architects, engineers and 'make it happen' leaders of the day were.
We know this one is bigger, but if you could only see one, we would choose the arena in Verona (especially if you could attend a show).
We have seen soooo many poor boyfriend's and husbands being instructed on how to take Instagram photos fire the ladies! They invariably check the snaps and then send them back to do it again. If they could only see how silly most of them look.
Tomorrow we go cycling 🚲 so in theory of step count will be much lower.
