Glacier Day

Today was all about glaciers.

Yes, we drove past various waterfalls but didn't really stop for any (maybe one).
They made us pay for more parking (this happens everywhere) and then walk up a hill too this trivial little waterfall.

On to the main act.

Vatnajokul is the main enormous glacier (7.70% of Iceland's land area) which has 15 glaciers feeding off it.
I intentionally didn't call them smaller glaciers because most of them are huge too; typically many kilometers across the terminus.
We walked up to this smaller one.
You see most from the road but we came into this one to view it's lake and icebergs.
These then melt down and head out the water channel to sea, often resting on Diamond beach.
and a birthday diamond for Marie.
Here are two snaps from our accommodation unit front door.
Sun at 10.30pm.

We are now very near to Hofn and head North tomorrow.
