Farewell to Malta

It's very possible that we will be back. Malta has been a very nice place to visit, especially the capital of Valletta.

We liked the fixed pricing for taxi fares (set by government). No mystery, no meters, no rip offs.
With a late flight to London we squeezed in a couple more tourist items this morning: St John's church and the War HQ tunnels under Valletta.

Yes, we did say we have seen enough churches to completely fill a small island nation, and that Malta seems to have one on every corner, but a lady urged us to visit St John's before we left town.

She was so right.

Along with Sienna, and probably better, the inside of this church was fantastic in it's decoration and 'show off' presentation.

It's back story (Knights of St John), and shared recognition across 8 European nations who helped to fund Malta rebuilds, is impressive, but it's the visual experience that holds your attention.
The floor is covered with tombs, especially for the knights, all with detailed marble artwork.
Carravagio original artworks.
And some important respect for my namesake:
St Michael the archangel.
This story line (tunnels under Valletta) was also interesting but the war planning rooms in London are much better.

Tomorrow we reach Katie and Nigel in Kingston upon Thames. It will be great to see them and to be 'home, away from home' again.
