Plymouth and Fowey

Fowey (with a silent W and E!!).

Plymouth may well have been the port James Cook set off from in his search for NZ but his fame hasn't stuck. It's all about the Mayflower, Francis Drake and even pirates!

Barbican precinct, the old port, is cool, but busy; a bit like the Arrowtown of Plymouth.

Fowey is a river port, with the usual deep history. The lanes down into the cute village are so small it is best to simply park in the council facility at the top of the hill and walk in (400 metres).

They don't have waterfront lanes so the best views are from a boat tour.
Mayflower model
They say she sailed from here but the museum describes the old dock being 30m back by today's road!
Gin distillery that's older than modern NZ.
Tour boat 😊
Our hotel is red brick place.
Dawn French's place until recently (sold).
A rare swimming beach.
Marie is quite tall by historical measures.
